Vietnam came in 23rd out of 40 countries in the ranking. Most Vietnamese got 6.0 (22%) and 6.5 (19%).
IELTS is graded on a scale of 1-9 to test the ability of listening, reading, writing and speaking in English. IELTS is jointly owned by the British Council, IDP IELTS, and Cambridge University Press & Assessment.
The report said that 80.31% of global candidates chose to take the Academic test for study, while 19.69% of candidates chose the General test for vocational training and migration.
“In recent years, many people are interested in obtaining an IELTS certificate to serve university admission and study abroad. IELTS is also chosen by many universities, as high-quality programmes and international joint programmes have appeared more and more, requiring students to have good English skills right from the application step,” said Dr. Vu Thi Thanh Nha, head of the Department of English, University of Foreign Languages, Hanoi National University.
Among the 40 countries and territories listed, the average IELTS Academic score of candidates from Spain, was the highest, reaching 7.1. Malaysia ranked 2nd with an average score of 7.0. Vietnam came in 23rd with an average IELTS score of 6.2, like candidates from India, the Republic of Korea and Pakistan.
