Vietnamese motorbike team conquers Himalayas
VTV.vn - 20 motorbikes with nearly 40 bikers went on a 23-day journey, conquering the Himalayas and a distance of about 10,000 kilometers.

Many experienced bikers from around the country also joined the trip to become the first Vietnamese biker team to make the journey. Reuniting after the trip, the bikers were excited to recount their exciting journey. For them, it seemed like the trip had just ended. All of them were filled with a sense of achievement for conquering the harsh snow-covered land and exceeding their own limits.

Tran Viet Cuong, Head, Vietnamese Biker Team to Tibet, Hanoi Motorrad said: We spent nearly a year preparing. When we found out that no other biker team had driven to Tibet before, we became even more determined to do it.

To complete the trip, the bikers had to overcome countless unexpected obstacles.

"The weather was harsh due to the altitude, which would be vastly different in one mountain to another. Too much snowfall also affected our health", Dao Van Tuan, Member, Vietnamese Biker Team to Tibet, Hanoi Motorrad added.

Nguyen Bao Toan, Member, Vietnamese Biker Team to Tibet, Saigon Motorrad, said: The biggest obstacle was the weather and the lack of oxygen. Sometimes we felt we couldn't breath. The oxygen content was so low that even a lighter wouldn't work.

For the first time ever, a Vietnamese motorcycle team has made it across Tibet to the Everest Base Camp at an altitude of nearly 5200m. This has stunned the world. Since the completion of their trip, they've started planning more journeys for the future, one of them being a trans-Australian biking tour. The success of this motorbike team has helped promote the Vietnamese spirit internationally.
