People gathered at August Revolution Square for the festivities in Hanoi. The pedestrian bridge at Ninh Kieu Wharf was the venue for Can Tho's celebrations. There were 2 other light shows on Phạm Văn Đồng - Võ Nguyên Giáp crossroads and Bạch Đằng - Nguyễn Văn Linh Interchange in Da Nang. Ho Chi Minh City had a different touch to their light shows at the Reunification Hall and the city hall with their 3D technology.
The show's color palette of red, blue and yellow symbolizes ASEAN unity. The idea came from the Philippines, the Chair of ASEAN in 2017. It's aimed at raising awareness about the significance of the ASEAN community.
The ASEAN was formed on August 8, 1967 through the Bangkok Declaration. It originally had five members – Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand – and has since expanded to include Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam.
Landmark Lighting activities, which feature the flags of ten ASEAN Member States, will also be held in other ASEAN Member States.
The Landmark Lighting symbolizes ASEANs key role as the light that guides the path of the ten ASEAN Member States in pursuit of regional peace and security, prosperity, and socio-cultural development.
