Vietnamese lacquer art introduced in Paris
Vietnamese lacquer art, lacquer paintings and products are being introduced during an exhibition in Paris which opened on September 14.

Opening the event, Ma The Anh, Director of the Department of Fine Arts, Photography and Exhibition under the Vietnamese Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism said that the event spotlights 40 prominent painters and artists who are currently active in researching and practising Vietnamese lacquer art.

The lacquer paintings and sculptures displayed in the exhibition hold a special aesthetic value, with marvellous beauty hidden beneath the lacquer layer, which is both luxurious and sophisticated, representing the elegance of Vietnamese lacquer art, he said.

With the aim of not only enhancing the Vietnam-France strategic partnership but also developing Vietnam's cultural industry and building the national brand for the cultural sector and fine arts in particular, the event is expected to contribute to expanding cultural, artistic, and tourism cooperation between Vietnam and France, stated the official.

Speaking to Vietnam News Agency (VNA) resident correspondents in Paris, Anh affirmed that the organisation of such a large-scale exhibition abroad requires great efforts from relevant agencies and artists. He said he hopes the exhibition will give visitors an insight into the Vietnamese traditional painting art in general and the modern Vietnamese lacquer painting art in particular, thereby continuing to promote the Vietnamese fine arts market.

Vietnamese Ambassador to France Dinh Toan Thang said that the event is expected to show international friends a Vietnamese nation which is not only heroic in national defence but also developing strongly in all aspects, as well as the talented Vietnamese people in art.

Following the opening of the exhibition, a concert was held to mark the 79th anniversary of the National Day of Vietnam with the performance of a string orchestra from Macedonia under the baton of Vietnamese conductor Le Phi Phi in combination with the national orchestra from the Vietnam National Music Song and Dance Theatre.
