The films Taxi, Em Tên Gì (Taxi Driver, What’s Your Name?), Lật Mặt (Face Off), Trót Yêu (Love) and Cầu Vồng Không Sắc (Rainbow) reveal a different view of the country’s film industry.
Produced by private film companies, these films feature the themes of love, family and social problems.
The Vietnamese Film Festival is organised by the Vietnamese-American Arts & Letters Association every two years to celebrate Vietnamese voices in cinema around the world.
Entries are submitted by directors from Việt Nam, the US, Australia, Canada and other countries.
The event attracted eight movies and 21 short films by directors from the UK, France, Germany, Japan and Việt Nam in 2014.
Film screenings will begin on September 29 at the Village Cinema Sunshine complex in Melbourne. The festival closes on October 6.
