Vietnamese businesses join hands with Cambodia to prevent COVID-19

VTV.vn - On behalf of Vietnamese businesses operating in Cambodia, Chairman of the Vietnamese Business Club in Cambodia (VBCC) Nguyen Thanh Dung presented US$11,100 to the Cambodian Government and people to support activities related to COVID-19.

The VBCC and the Association of Vietnamese Investors in Cambodia (AVIC) and the Khmer-Vietnam Entrepreneur Association under the Khmer-Vietnam Association are among the support organisations ofVietnamese businesses positively contributing to thedevelopment of cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia.

A number of Vietnamese enterprises are currently operating effectively in Cambodia. The Vietnam Rubber Industry Group, which is planting over 100,000 hectares of rubber, is creating jobs for thousands of local workers. Banks such as BIDC, Agribank, Sacombank, MB, SHB are doing well with a total capital presence of over US$380 million. Metfone, the Cambodian affiliate of the military-run telecom group Viettel, is currently the number one telecommunications group in Cambodia.

Regarding the disease situation, the Ministry of Health of Cambodia on April 15 announced that it had not recorded any new cases in the past 24 hours. To date, Cambodia has detected 122 cases of COVID-19, of which 96 have recovered.

Meanwhile, Cambodia’s Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training has announced that 95% of factories and businesses in the country are still operating normally during the traditional Chol Chnam Thmay (New Year) festival (from April 13-16).

The Cambodian government has also delayed the organisation of events nationwide to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 in the community, allowing workers and employees in the private sector to take time off withappropriate notice.
