VTV.vn - Vietnamese athletics officially wrapped up its Rio Olympic campaign on the morning of August 16 as sprinter Nguyen Thi Huyen failed to break through the preliminary round of the women’s 400m hurdles event.

Competing against tough opponents, Huyen finished in just 38th position among the 48 participants, with a time of 57.87 seconds.

Earlier on August 13, Huyen also stopped in the preliminary round of the women’s 400m dash as the 38th athlete to reach the finish line, clocking a time of 52.97 seconds.

Meanwhile, racewalker Nguyen Thanh Ngung did not live up to expectations, ending up in 60th place among 63 finishers of the men’s 20km race. The overall time of 1:30:01 was much slower than the 1:23:29 result which had qualified him for the Rio Olympics.

The two remaining athletes of the Vietnam Olympic delegation, wrestlers Vu Thi Hang and Nguyen Thi Lua, will compete in the women’s 48kg and 53kg freestyle events respectively on August 17 and 18.
