VTV.vn - Assoc. Prof. Dr. Luong Ngoc Khue and members of the ASEAN 2020 Subcommittee for Security and Health inspected some venues in the central coastal city of Da Nang on Feb 17 to ensure the medical work in service of the ASEAN Summits this year.

The working team toured the four hotels designated to host the 36th ASEAN Summit in Da Nang, namely Furama, Sheraton, Pulman and Nalod, working with the hotels concerning the arrangement of duty rooms for health officials, on-site isolation rooms, epidemic prevention and control plans, and hygiene in meeting rooms and breakrooms.

Later on the same day, the delegation had a working session with leaders of the Da Nang municipal People’s Committee and the municipal Department of Health to discuss the best coordination measures to ensure health for delegates, guests and workers at the ASEAN meetings, particularly as Vietnam is actively preventing and combating the acute respiratory disease caused by the novel coronavirus (Covid-19).

Earlier, the Ministry of Health (MoH) sent a dispatch to the National ASEAN 2020 Committee to offer some basic instruction on Covid-19 prevention and control, aiming to ensure the effective management of health issues at the ASEAN conferences, slated to take place in Vietnam this month.

In the document, the MoH also provided recommendations concerning measures to protect and care for health and prevent the risk of Covid-19 infection, such as regularly washing hands and using masks.

When delegates, guests and reporters from the Covid-19 hit countries arrive at the airport, they will receive strict medical screening and quarantine. The centres for disease control of provinces and centrally run cities where there are airports have arranged the international health quarantine teams that will coordinate with functional agencies and relevant units to carry out medical declarations and quarantine for immigrants.

In addition, a round-the-clock medical team, consisting of two doctors (specialised in cardiology and emergency cases), two nurses, one driver and one ambulance, will be arranged at each of the hotels and meeting venues, to ensure the health of participants in the ASEAN meetings.

The MoH has already established 45 quick response teams against Covid-19 within its Decision 225/QD-BYT, dated January 30, 2020. These mobile teams are fully equipped with the means for emergency resuscitation (motorised breathing device, oxygen, drugs and fluids for transfusion), personal protective equipment and disinfectant chemicals, and constantly stand ready to take action at the order of the MoH, the National Steering Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control, and the ASEAN 2020 Sub-committee for Security and Health.
