In Vietnam, it is estimated that 20% of Vietnam’s total area, mostly focused in the central provinces of Quang Binh, Ha Tinh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien-Hue still remain heavily covered by unexploded ordnance.
It is estimated it will take 100 years and $10 billion to clear mines, bombs and other explosives left over from the American War. To remove residual items, The Vietnamese government approved a 2010-2025 national programme on tackling post-war bombs, mines and unexploded ordnances on April 21, 2010. Its goal is to use national and international resources to minimise the effects of UXOs on social-economic development, while ensuring safety for people and helping victims reintegrate into society.
