Speaking at the meeting, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc praised the good relationship Mongolia and Vietnam have built over the years. However, he also added that economic ties and investment between the two countries were still weak. The Prime Minister said Vietnam was always ready to supply Mongolia with many varieties of its agricultural products including tomatoes, cucumbers, coffee and rice. He also suggested Vietnam could supply more high-quality workers to work in Mongolia in the future. The Prime Minister highlighted Vietnam’s role and providing Mongolia with a gateway to expand markets through its ASEAN membership and possible TransPacific Partnership involvement. He promised that Vietnam would work to lower export costs to Mongolia and create investment opportunities for Mongolian businesses in Vietnam.
The Prime Minister also visited Mongolia’s wool company Gobi, one of the world’s biggest cashmere wool manufacturers. Here, he expressed hope that the company and Vietnamese businesses could co-operate and work together in the future.
