At the conference, experts discussed a study into Thai Hom Mali rice to determine whether it had the features to become the first step in building a brand. Vietnamese rice consists of many varieties but they have low productivity.
Last May, the prime minister approved a scheme to develop a national rice brand. The scheme will play an important role to help improve Vietnamese rice. Meanwhile, experts said that a new model of rice management should be immediately implemented to help Vietnamese rice maintain its position in the international market.
