This tribute was part of a special mission to visit and present gifts to soldiers and civilians on the Truong Sa (Spratly) Archipelago and the DK1 platforms. While on the mission, Working Group No. 20 from VTV also met with the Command of Naval Region 4 and paid their respects to fallen heroes and martyrs at the Gac Ma Memorial Site.
On the afternoon of May 8, the VTV delegation, comprising Mr. Dinh Dac Vinh – Deputy General Director, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, and Chairman of the VTV Trade Union – and Mr. Le Quyen – Deputy General Director, along with 30 outstanding trade union representatives and department leaders from VTV, held a working session with the Naval Region 4 Command.
On behalf of the VTV Trade Union, Mr. Dinh Dac Vinh presented meaningful material and emotional gifts to the officers and soldiers of Naval Region 4. Colonel Nguyen Huu Minh – Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Deputy Political Commissar of Naval Region 4 – and other regional leaders warmly welcomed the VTV delegation. They expressed gratitude for VTV’s long-standing support in raising awareness of the traditions and heroic efforts of the Vietnam People’s Navy in safeguarding national maritime sovereignty among the Vietnamese people, overseas Vietnamese communities, and the international audience.
On May 9, the delegation visited the Gac Ma Soldiers Memorial Site, where they held a solemn incense-offering ceremony at the “Those Who Remained Beyond the Horizon” monument. The delegates observed a minute of silence in memory of the heroic martyrs who sacrificed their lives for Vietnam's maritime sovereignty. They also lit incense at the symbolic graves and visited the underground museum, which preserves artifacts and memorabilia of the Gac Ma heroes. There, they learned about the 1988 naval battle in which 64 Vietnamese sailors bravely gave their lives defending Gac Ma, Co Lin, and Len Dao reefs.
Deputy General Director Dinh Dac Vinh expressed his belief that this trip to Truong Sa and the DK1 platforms would be a deeply moving experience for all delegation members, fostering a renewed sense of patriotism and pride in Vietnam’s maritime territories.
