Nguyen Thi Hang, Tran Nhat Hoang, Quach Thi Lan and Tran Dinh Son bagged the first gold medal for Vietnamese athletics in the Philippines following their supreme victory in the 4x400m mixed relay event.
Pham Thi Thu Trang brought home another this morning, completing the women’s 10,000m race walk in the fastest time of 52:59.45, beating runner-up Soe Than Than (Myanmar) by 30.44 seconds. Meanwhile, Vietnam’s top hope in the event, Nguyen Thi Thanh Phuc, underperformed settling for just a fourth-place finish.
Pham Thi Hue helped Vietnam dominate the 10,000m distance by winning the women’s 10,000m race with a time of 36:23.44.
Loc Thi Dao, Do Thi Anh Nguyet and Nguyen Thi Phuong beat their Myanmar opponents 6-2 in the women’s team recurve (one-string) category to clinch the first gold medal for Vietnam’s archery team.
Alongside the four golds, Vietnam won four additional silver medals thanks to Le Tu Chinh (athletics, women’s 200m), Pham Thi Hong Le (athletics, women’s 10,000m), Le Thi Hien and Pham Thi Hue (rowing, women’s pair), and Nguyen Van Ha and Nhu Dinh Nam (rowing, men’s lightweight double sculls), and two bronzes in muay (men’s 465kg) and athletics (women’s triple jump).
