The Central Highlands is where 70% of all wild elephants in Vietnam live. A recent study showed that there are about 100 wild elephants in Vietnam. 70 of them live in Yok Don National Park. Dak Lak province also has 61 tamed elephants.
After conservation efforts, elephants in Yok Đôn National Park have been able to mate. A few flocks of elephants have been reported.
However, experts still stress the need for long-term solutions to protecting wild and tamed elephants in the coming time because conservation activities still face challenges and the illegal purchase of elephant products is still rampant.
