It is the third delivery as part of the Vietnam Vaccine Company (VNVC)’s contract to buy 30 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine.
To date Vietnam has received more than 5.7 million doses of AstraZeneca’s COVID-19 vaccine through pre-ordered contracts, the COVAX Facility and donations by foreign governments.
It is the first COVID-19 vaccine authorised for use in Vietnam and has been supplied in large quantities to support Vietnam’s vaccination campaign.
Nitin Kapoor, AstraZeneca President for Vietnam and Frontier Markets said the company will continue working with the Ministry of Health, the WHO, UNICEF and other partners to provide millions of more doses in the coming months.
According to the Ministry of Health, as of July 8, Vietnam has administered 3.9 million doses of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine to frontline workers and priority groups.
