VTV.vn - With the population of over 260 million people, Indonesia is the fourth largest country in the world. However, only 7.5 million Indonesians travel abroad each year.

This is a market with a lot of potential for Vietnamese tourism. Promoting Vietnamese tourism in Indonesia was one of the main topics discussed at a Road Show that took place on Monday in Jakarta (Indonesia). The event was organised by the Viet Nam Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in cooperation with other relevant ministries and agencies in Indonesia.

Vietnam's famous destinations such as Ha Long bay, Tràng An, Son Doong cave, Hoi An, and Hue imperial citadel were introduced at the event. Over 100 Indonesian travel agencies that attended the event were impressed with the image, people, culture and tourism products of Vietnam. Vietnam has favourable conditions to develop tourism between the two countries.

Ha Van Sieu, Deputy Director General, Vietnam National Administration of Tourism said:  Apart from Vietnam Airlines, Vietjet Air also offers routes that fly directly to Indonesia. Other airline companies also have routes that connect Indonesia with Vietnam. This is good timing.

Each year, the number of Vietnamese visitors to Indonesia reaches approximately 40,000. Last year, Vietnam welcomed 100,000 Indonesian visitors to Vietnam.

Pupung Thariqf, Deputy Director General of South East Asia, Indonesia Ministry of Tourism said:  In order for the tourism market between the two countries to further develop, there should be solutions for specific problems: for example, increasing Indonesian tour guides and expanding halal cuisine for Muslims.

In the near future, the development of transportation infrastructure will continue to be a focus in order to develop the tourism market of the two countries. Vietnam's tourism promotion program is an opportunity for businesses to seek cooperation. Vietnam hopes that by 2018, there will be 120,000 Indonesian tourists to Vietnam.
