Vietnam promotes radiology & nuclear medicine

VTV.vn - The national conference on Radiology and Nuclear Medicine kicked off in Ninh Binh Province on Friday with a crowd of over 500 domestic and foreign scientists, medical device manufacturers, and experts working in image diagnosis.

Digital X-Ray, doppler ultrasound, Multi-detector row CT, Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), PET-CT, and the Gamma knife. These top technological tools have been utilised by Vietnamese doctors in neurology and the treatment of cancer.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Pham Minh Thong, Vice Director, Bach Mai Hospital, Hanoi said: "Doctors in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City have used the equipment well and saved thousands lives. Before, we had to do surgery in cerebrovascular diseases and the surgery was very hard. Now we can do coil treatments like most other countries".

During a course of treatment, early detection of symptoms is the most important. Therefore, diagnostic imaging and nuclear medicine play a crucial role for accurate diagnosis.

Mr. Le Quang Cuong, Deputy Minister of Health said: "Since we applied modern equipment in treatment, the health sector has accomplished certain achievements, including coil treatment and early cancer diagnosis".   

The rapid development of image technology and nuclear medicine aids intensive examinations, and further detects functional changes in metabolism. Applying X-rays andnuclear medicine in image diagnosis has become an important topic in the field.
