VTV.vn - The two forestry management agencies of Vietnam and Laos met in Vietnam’s central province of Ha Tinh on October 30 to review their cooperation in forestry law enforcement.

In recent years, cooperation between the Vietnam Administration of Forestry and the Laos Department of Forest Inspection has contributed to limiting the number of forest fires and violations concerning illegal logging and wildlife trafficking along the 2,340-km border.

Vietnam and Laos have also called for international organisations and programmes to continue providing resources for the two countries to carry out cooperative activities in the future.

Deputy Director of the Vietnam Administration of Forestry, Pham Van Dien, stated that the two countries have agreed to step up patrols in order to protect forests and ecosystems, and manage forests sustainably as a measure to cope with climate change.

For his part, Director of the Laos Department of Forest Inspection, Linthong Douangphachanh, said the meeting is a good opportunity for the two countries to share their experience in forest management.

The meeting is scheduled to close on October 31 when the members of the two delegates will visit the Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park in Quang Binh province.
