Held by the Israeli Embassy; the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA); and the Vietnam office of the UN Population Fund (UNFPA), the event offered a chance for experts to share their experiences in caring for persons with disabilities and ensuring their rights.
Most of Israeli television shows, even live shows now have subtitles, making it easier for deaf or hearing impaired viewers to watch. Israelis with disabilities also have their own bus lanes, and get support during their entire rides. These are just 2 among many efforts of Israel to implement the right to access information and the right to access public infrastructures of persons with disabilities in the country.
Statistics show that 16% or more than 878 thousand people of Israeli working-age population are people with disabilities. For Vietnam, the total number of people with disabilities is now more than 6.7 million people, accounting for 7.8% of the country’s population.
Vietnam joined the International Conventions on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in 2007. The country also passed and enacted its first law on persons with disabilities in 2010, showing its efforts to ensure the right, reduce inclusion barriers and increase access to services for persons with disabilities.
