VTV.vn - Vietnam’s national football team will participate in the 2019 King’s Cup international tournament in Thailand this June at the invitation of the Football Association of Thailand (FAT).

The information was confirmed by Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) Tran Quoc Tuan at a press conference in Hanoi on March 13.

This is the second time that Vietnam have been invited to attend the competition. In 2006, the Golden Dragons finished as the runners-up after suffering a 3-1 defeat against the hosts in the final match.

The 2019 King’s Cup is scheduled to take place from June 5 to 8, featuring the participation of four international teams, namely Thailand, Vietnam, China and India. It is considered a useful warm-up for coach Park Hang-seo’s Vietnamese side in preparation for the 2022 World Cup qualifiers later this year.

The four participants will be divided into two pairs, with the winners of each pair progressing to the final clash. The two losing teams will meet in the third-place playoff.

The four-day tournament coincides with the schedule of the FIFA’s international matches. So, the results of King’s Cup matches will directly affect the teams’ ranking in the next FIFA men’s world standings.
