VTV.vn - Vietnamese authorities will consider expanding fully automated toll collection to other expressways across the country after piloting the scheme on the Hanoi-Hai Phong Expressway.

According to the Directorate for Roads of Vietnam (DRVN), this May it will inspect the entire infrastructure on the expressway and address all technological obstacles so that the full electronic toll collection (ETC) plan can go ahead in June.

Currently, VIDIFI, which operates the Hanoi-Hai Phong Expressway, has completed setting up ETC systems in preparation for this plan, while 65% of vehicles using the expressway have been installed with electronic tags.

DRVN Director Nguyen Van Huyen said there is no situation where fully automated toll collections on the Hanoi-Hai Phong Expressway will restrict the people’s right to movement, as they can choose to use the parallel National Highway 5.

Furthermore, ineligible vehicles are not allowed to use the Hanoi-Hai Phong Expressway and will be fined if they travel in the ETC lanes.
