Vietnam elected non-permanent UN Security Council member for 2020-2021 term
VTV.vn - 193 member countries of the United Nations voted for five UN Security Council Members for the term 2020-2021. Vietnam was elected with almost absolute votes of 192/193 votes.

This number far exceeds the number of votes of 183/190 for the first term of 2008-2009. Vietnam is the only candidate for the Asia-Pacific region.

Becoming non-permanent members of the Council, countries are allowed to participate in all caucuses, open and rotating discussions; and take the monthly chairman position. This is an opportunity to express voices and roles in major issues related to world peace and security.

Vietnam will replace Kuwait as a non-permanent member starting January 1, 2020.
