On June 5, the northern province of Hung Yen held a seminar on environmental protection and signed a commitment to fight against plastic waste.
Hung Yen province has about 60 enterprises producing plastic packaging and products and two craft villages specialising in plastic recycling, with a total capacity of 500 to 1,000 tonnes per day.
At the seminar, participants proposed solutions to effectively treat domestic waste, including the classification and treatment of organic waste in the household. Approximately 30% of local households in Hung Yen have participated in classifying organic waste at home.
*On the same day, the People’s Committee of Phong Dien district in the central province of Thua Thien – Hue held a meeting to respond to World Environment Day, Vietnam Seas and Islands Week, Action Month for Environment, Green Sunday, the Anti-Plastic Waste Movement and Say No to Plastic Bags.
Local authorities presented more than 200 reusable shopping bags and biodegradable plastic bags to delegates attending the meeting, local households in Phong An and Phong Hien communes and household businesses at An Lo market.
*The People’s Committee of the Central Highlands province of Kon Tum launched a tree planting ceremony in Dak Glei district on June 5 to mark World Environment Day.
All 10 districts and city of Kon Tum planted a total of nearly 71,500 trees in public locations.
*The Public Security force of Ninh Binh province in coordination with Luu Phuong commune in Kim Son district launched a ceremony on June 5 to call on people to join hands in protecting the environment, ensuring traffic safety and preventing and fighting crimes.
* Meanwhile, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of the southern province of Soc Trang organised a workshop on the collection, transportation and treatment of hazardous medical waste in the province, aiming to boost the effective treatment of hazardous medical waste to avoid environmental pollution.
