Vietnam earns 13 million USD from fruit and veg exports each day as Tet nears

VTV.vn - In January of this year, Vietnam generated approximately 13 million USD from vegetable and fruit exports each day while spending nearly 6 million USD on daily imports of the foodstuffs.

The latest data from the General Department of Vietnam Customs shows that the first month of this year, which is the last month of the lunar year ahead of Tet (Lunar New Year), Vietnam saw a strong increase in both imports and exports of fruit and vegetables.

The value of fruit and vegetables exported in January reached nearly 384 million USD, up 18% over the previous month and 63% over the same period of last year.

China, Japan, the US, and the Republic of Korea (ROK) remained as the top four importers of Vietnamese fruit and vegetables last month. At the top of the pile, the Chinese market consumed Vietnamese fruits and vegetables worth 269 million USD, while the US imported 11 million USD, Japan 10 million USD, and the ROK 6.9 million USD.

For import figures, in the last month the country imported fruit and vegetable products worth 167 million USD, up 22% over the previous month and up 72.5% over the same period in 2017.

Thailand topped the turnover figure for Vietnamese imports of fruit and vegetables in January, at more than 73 million USD, followed by China with nearly 39 million USD, and the US with 18 million USD.
