VTV.vn - National Assembly (NA) Vice Chairman Uong Chu Luu led an NA delegation to attend the second Meeting of Speakers of Eurasian Countries' Parliaments (MSEAP) in Seoul, the Republic of Korea (RoK), on June 27.

The event, co-chaired by Chairman of the State Duma of Russia Vyacheslav Volodin and Speaker of the RoK National Assembly Chung Sye-kyun, saw the participation of 28 delegations from European and Asian nations.

Speaking at the meeting, Luu affirmed that with its huge potential, the Eurasian region plays an important role in ensuring peace and stability and bringing in common prosperity in the region and the world.

He stressed the need for Eurasian nations to build a general orientation, stepping up integration and intensify inter-regional cooperation comprehensively.

To reach these targets, it is essential to promote the role of multilateral cooperation mechanisms among governments and parliaments to deal with common challenges, protect countries’ legitimate interests, and boost mutually-beneficial collaboration on the basis of international law and common standards.

The Vietnamese official emphasised that Vietnam, with its foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, and diversification and multilateralisation of international relations, is willing to actively participate in the regional and international integration process.

It hopes to collaborate closely with Eurasian countries in the fields of education and training, science and technology, while willingly supporting inter-regional cooperation initiatives, Luu stated.

The Vietnamese National Assembly wants to further intensify its relations with parliaments of Eurasian countries in order to improve its legal system and promote its role of representing the Vietnamese people.

He also took the occasion to raise several issues for discussion, including measures to intensify regional and inter-regional economic connectivity, foster the global multilateral trading system, and speed up Eurasian cooperation in technology transfer, environmental protection and climate change response.

The second MSEAP approved the Seoul Declaration which emphasised that the parties involved agreed to make more efforts to improve roles and functions of parliaments and expand inter-parliamentary cooperation to contribute to the prosperity of the region and the world.

In the declaration, the countries also committed to boosting cooperation in the fields of energy, human resources and people-to-people exchange, while supporting dialogue for economic integration and measures taken by the United Nations and the Inter-parliamentary Union in handling global challenges.
