Vietnam attaches importance to strengthening ties with India

VTV.vn - The Party and Government of Vietnam always attach great importance to and desire to promote the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and India, says senior Vietnamese Party official.

Politburo member and permanent member of the Communist Party of Vietnam Secretariat Tran Quoc Vuong made the statement at a reception given for Pranay Verma, Indian Ambassador to Vietnam, in Hanoi on August 4.

Vuong spoke highly of the close traditional relationship between Vietnam and India, which was founded and nurtured by late Vietnamese President Ho Chi Minh. and late Indian Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, as well as their successors of the two countries.

The comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and India is developing well, he assured the Indian diplomat.

Congratulating India on being elected as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for the term 2021-2022, Vuong appreciated India’s cooperation and support for Vietnam in its role as ASEAN Chair 2020 and a non-permanent member of the UNSC for 2020-2021.

He also appreciated the Indian Government’s stance on the East Sea issue and affirmed Vietnam’s consistent policy of resolving East Sea disputes through peaceful means and in respect for international law, especially the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

For his part, Indian ambassador Pranay Verma expressed his pleasure at the increased development of the India-Vietnam cooperative relations in all fields of national defense and security, economics-trade, and people-to-people exchanges. He hailed Vietnam’s initial encouraging results in combating COVID-19 and wished the Communist Party of Vietnam will successfully organize its 13th National Party Congress to move Vietnam forward.

The Indian diplomat affirmed that the Indian government will continue to foster cooperative relations with Vietnam for the peace, stability and prosperity in the region and the world at large.
