VTV.vn - Tanzanian President John Magufuli and Vietnamese State president Truong Tan Sang held a press conference after talks.

Reviewing the highlights in the relationship between the two countries, President John Magufuli stressed that President Trương Tấn Sang’ visit was a momentous event in the history of Tanzania-Vietnam relations, building on past achievements and shaping the future. The Tanzanian president recalled the events in 1976, when Tanzania provided Vietnam with cashew seedlings. And now Vietnam has become one of the world’s leading cashew exporters. According to President John Magufuli, the two sides have agreed to bolster economic links to new levels.

President Sang stressed that, despite the distance, Tanzania remained among the first African countries to establish diplomatic ties with Vietnam. Tanzania supported Vietnam during its struggle for national independence and reunification and this was a firm foundation for further mutual support in the development of the two countries.

"We’re very happy about the development in the co-operation between the two countries over the past 50 years. We’ve also discussed plans for greater co-operation in the coming time, especially in trade, investment, telecommunications, and the arms industry. We agreed to maintain regular meetings of the inter-governmental committee to review and boost links. We’ve also agreed that both countries should contribute to maintaining peace and stability and that border and territorial disputes should be settled peacefully and in line with international law." - Truong Tan Sang, Vietnamese State President.

The Vietnamese state president also shared his impressions on Tanzania’s economic achievements, particularly over recent years. Sang also strongly believed that with strong determination of the two countries’ leaders, Tanzania-Vietnam traditional relations would thrive in the future.
