The annual event aims to pay tribute to the heroes who sacrificed for the peace and freedom of their country as well educate the patriotism and national pride among younger generations.
Speaking at the ceremony, Russian Ambassador to Vietnam Gennady Bezdetko stressed the significance of the Great Patriotic War of the former Soviet people.

He also affirmed that the Great Patriotic War in 1945 fundamentally changed the world map, opened a new page of history, and marked the collapse of the world colonial system.
The Ambassador also expressed his gratitude to Vietnamese volunteers who fought alongside with the former Soviet Union army to defend Moscow, contributing to he great victory of the Soviet people.

Belarusian Ambassador to Vietnam Uladzimir Baravikou affirmed that the Belarusian people always respect the memories of the Victory of the Great Patriotic War.
He noted that valuing and appreciating the glorious victories of the former Soviet state and people is the sacred duty and obligation of every Belarusian, thereby affirming the spirit of solidarity and fight to protect peace, freedom and independence of the country.

Major General Trinh Quoc Khanh, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Vietnam-Russia Friendship Association, emphasised the traditional relationship between Vietnam and the former Soviet Union and between Vietnam and Russia today.
He said that during the Great Patriotic War, Vietnamese volunteer soldiers stood side by side with the people of the former Soviet Union to fight to protect the capital city of Moscow. Meanwhile, During Vietnam’s resistance war against America, many Soviet experts helped the Vietnamese people.
