Officials from North and South Korea said on Tuesday that they agreed to hold negotiations to resolve problems and avert accidental conflict, after their first official dialogue in more than two years / amid high tension over the North's weapons programme. Russia, the US, and the EU have shown their optimism as the talks bear fruit.
Also on Tuesday, EU High Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini said in a statement that the bloc welcomed the joint announcements adopted after the talks, hailing that they "can be conducive to fostering trust and de-escalating tensions on the Korean Peninsula".
