US reduces countervailing duties on Vietnamese tyres

VTV.vn - The US Department of Commerce (DOC) will impose countervailing duties of 6.23-7.89% on Vietnamese tyre imports, lower than the preliminary tariffs of 6.23-10.08%.

The duties are part of the DOC’s final conclusion regarding the antidumping investigation into passenger vehicle and light truck tyres from the Republic of Korea, Taiwan (China), Thailand and Vietnam.

The DOC largely retained its preliminary findings that most tyre makers in Vietnam (accounting for 95.5% of Vietnamese tyre exports to the US) are not engaged in dumping practices and are not subject to duties.

However, an antidumping duty of 22.3% is levied on other tyre makers.

The countervailing rates for Vietnamese tyres range from 6.23-7.89%, the lowest among the countries and territories subject to the DOC’s investigation.

According to Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade, this is a positive result for Vietnamese tyre manufacturers and exporters in the US market.

The conclusion also protects the interests of Vietnam’s rubber industry as about 80% of natural rubber produced in Vietnam is used to make vehicle tyres.
