On July 28th, US Ambassador to Vietnam, Ted Osius, attended a press conference to announce the results of Communist Party General Secretary Nguyễn Phú Trọng’s visit to the United States and his own visit to the Vietnamese community in California. During the event, Osius also mentioned the plans of the co-operation between the two countries in the coming time.
Speaking at the conference, US Ambassador to Vietnam, Ted Osius, said Vietnamese - US relations had advanced to a new level after Communist Party of Vietnam General Secretary Nguyễn Phú Trọng’s visit earlier this month. The ambassador reiterated that both sides had said they respected each other’s political systems, as recognised and stated in the common statement that was issued during the trip.
The US Ambassador and 4 congressmen recently visited the Vietnamese community in California, the United States. They all pledged to do their best to promote mutual understanding between the Vietnamese and the American people. He claimed the US had a consistent policy is to maintain a close relationship with Vietnam.
Ambassador Osius expressed support for a direct flight between Vietnam and the United States, insisting that the route, once operational, would benefit tourists, students and investors from both countries, especially if the Trans Pacific Partnership was signed. The ambassador also revealed that US Secretary of State John Kerry will pay a visit to Vietnam in August.
