VTV.vn - The US Ambassador's Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP) will grant US$92,500 for the conservation of the Ho Dynasty Citadel, a UNESCO-recognised World Cultural Heritage site in the central province of Thanh Hoa.

The money will support the preservation and restoration of the domed gate in the South of the site, which is more than 34 metres long, 15 metres deep and 10 metres high.

Having existed for more than six centuries, the gate has faced severe degradation on its surface and structure under the impacts of weather and corrosion.

The project is due to be carried out from November 2018 to June 2019.

Under the project, the Ho Dynasty Citadel’s Preservation Centre will invite acclaimed experts from home and abroad to join fact-finding tours to the site in order to give recommendations on how to maintain the heritage site’s value.

In addition to restoring and embellishing the Ho Dynasty Citadel, the project also aims to raise public awareness of heritage preservation and promote the site’s value to visitors to Thanh Hoa province.

Built in 1397 in Vinh Loc district, the citadel is a unique piece of Vietnamese stonework architecture. The citadel was recognised as a world cultural heritage by UNESCO in June 2011.
