VTV.vn - David McNaught, Counselor of the British Embassy in Vietnam, on the morning of August 3, presented 415,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine funded by the British Government to help Vietnam in its fight against the COVID-19 epidemic.

A representative of the Ministry of Health said that over the past 50 years, the cooperative relationship between Vietnam and the UK has been continuously expanded and developed. In the field of health, the two sides have been implementing very active and effective cooperation activities through government agencies, NGOs and UK funds such as the Better Health Programme, Fleming Fund, and the Newborns Fund.

Currently, Vietnam is implementing its largest vaccination campaign in history with the goal that by the end of the first quarter of 2022, about 70% of the population will be vaccinated, in order to achieve herd immunity, and return to normal life.

In parallel with its efforts to access safe and effective Covid-19 vaccine supplies, Vietnam is also promoting the research, development and production of domestic vaccines, as well as strengthening its technology transfer cooperation with international partners.

The Ministry of Health thanks the British Government for giving Vietnam 415,000 doses of the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine. This is a very valuable and timely gift in the prevention and control of the Covid-19 epidemic in Vietnam.

In addition to offering direct support to countries, the UK's contributions to the COVAX Mechanism are of great significance, in order to facilitate equitable access to Covid-19 vaccines worldwide.
