Typhoon Nakri weakens into tropical depression, causing heavy rains

VTV.vn - Typhoon Nakri weakened into a tropical depression at 23:00 on November 10 after making landfall in the provinces of Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen and Khanh Hoa, bringing pouring rains to Central Highlands and Southeast region.

According to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting (NCHMF), the tropical depression is moving westward at a speed of 10-15km per hour and dissipating.

Due to the effect of the tropical depression, provinces from Thua Thien Hue to Binh Thuan, the Central Highlands and Southeast regions are expected to suffer moderate to heavy rain on November 11 -12.

The NCHMF also warned of rising floods on the Kon River in Binh Dinh province and Ba River in Phu Yen province in addition to potential landslides in mountainous areas and floods in low-lying areas in the provinces of Binh Dinh and Phu Yen

Airlines including Vietnam Airlines, Jetstar Pacific and Vietjet Air canceled total 37 domestic and international flights to or from airports in the South Central region in addition to adjusting flight time of other flights on November 10 and 11 due to the typhoon.

Quang Ngai province also evacuated more than 10,000 local people to safer locations on November 10 while Binh Dinh province evacuated nearly 10,000 people.

In Phu Yen province, more than 59,700 people in 32 communes were left without electricity due to torrential rains and strong winds caused by typhoon Nakri.
