These two women are the survivors of the Hà My and Phong Nhị massacres which took place in Quang Nam in 1968. The massacres were perpetrated by troops from the RoK "Green Dragon" brigade. The award, which is given by the RoK-Vietnam Peace Fund, a non-governmental organization, shows that they have sympathy for the Vietnamese people who suffered from the massacre. For more than 10 years, these two women have welcomed hundreds of South Korean students, journalists and socialists to the province to find out more about the massacre. This helps promote the "Sincere apologies to Vietnam" movement that was launched in 1999.
