Con Dao district in the southern province of Ba Ria Vung Tau will not be receiving any more visitors to its relic sites or tourist attractions as of 15:00 on March 10 in an attempt to prevent the potential spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

The move comes amid increasingly complicated developments relating to the COVID-19 epidemic, with Con Dao island representing something of a tourist hotspot, typically welcoming an average of 3,000 domestic and foreign tourists each day.

However, medical equipment at health centres in the district are yet to be fully equipped to deal with any potential outbreak.

In order to promptly prevent the epidemic from spreading throughout the area, the Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control has moved to temporarily suspend the right for foreigners to visit Con Dao, whilst simultaneously encouraging foreign arrivals to promptly return to the mainland.

The steering committee has also requested that there is a halt to any procedures for Vietnamese citizens looking to travel to Con Dao until a further announcement is made.
