International visitors come not only from the near Northeast Asian markets but also from distant markets for long-term stays and spending more money. Last year, the Prime Minister's extension of visa exemption for 5 Western European countries in 3 consecutive years also opened up great opportunities for Vietnamese tourism.
Tourism is gradually becoming a spearhead economic sector directly contributing to the nation's GDP. In 2019, the tourism industry aims to welcome 18 million international visitors and 85 million domestic tourists with total revenue of over 29.9 billion USD.
