More than 1,800 students aged from 16 to 17 in Ho Chi Minh City’s Cu Chi district and District 1 received their first COVID-19 vaccine shot on October 27.

In Cu Chi district, a vaccination site was set up at Cu Chi Town Elementary School to administer 1,500 eleventh and twelfth graders, who had the written consent from their parents and guardians for vaccination against COVID-19.

The teenagers must have their body temperature checked and undergo a health screening before getting the vaccine shot. After being vaccinated, they were also required to wait for approximately 30 minutes so that medical workers can monitor for side effects, if any.

Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh municipal Centre for Disease Control and Prevention Nguyen Hong Tam said that according to the COVID-19 vaccination guidelines of the Ministry of Health and the Ho Chi Minh City Pasteur Institute, Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine is administered to school students at a dose of 0.3 mL.

On the afternoon of October 27, about 300 students in the 16-17 age group in District 1 were vaccinated against COVID-19 at a vaccination site at Luong The Vinh High School.

The Ho Chi Minh City Health Department plans to vaccinate 780,000 children aged between 12 to 17 against COVID-19. Surveys have shown that 92.13% parents and guardians accept the COVID-19 vaccine for their children.
