Thirty football clubs swallow up nearly half of European revenue

VTV.vn - Europe's 710 top-tier football clubs pulled in a record 20.11 billion euros (£17.63 billion) in revenues between them in the 2017 financial year although almost half of that amount went to 30 of them, according to an annual UEFA report.

* UK ultra runner Jasmin Paris has become the first woman to win the 268-mile Montane Spine Race, while also expressing breast milk for her daughter at checkpoints along the way. Paris, 35, dominated a gruelling race, from Derbyshire in central England to the Scottish border, crossing the finish line in 83 hours, 12 minutes and 23 seconds.

* Scotland captain Andy Robertson became the latest Liverpool player to sign a new long-term contract on Thursday, with the left-back agreeing a deal until 2024.

* Most football associations in the world back increasing the size of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar to 48 teams from 32, with some matches to be played in neighbouring countries, FIFA President Gianni Infantino said on Thursday.

* WADA said on Thursday (Jan 17) that they have “successfully retrieved” data from the Moscow laboratory at the heart of Russia's state-sponsored doping scandal which involved more than 1,000 athletes and 30 sports.

* Barcelona could be thrown out of the Copa del Rey for fielding suspended defender Chumi Brandariz in their last-16 first leg defeat after opponents Levante said on Thursday they would lodge a complaint with the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF).

* German Bundesliga side VfB Stuttgart have signed defender Ozan Kabak from Galatasaray for 11 million euros (£9.7 million), the Turkish club said on Thursday.

* Qatar's Nasser al-Attiyah cruised to his third Dakar Rally title on Thursday (Jan 17) with a 46-minute cushion over second-placed Nani Roma at the end of the world's toughest rally in Lima.

* Leeds United have signed Spanish goalkeeper Kiko Casilla has from Real Madrid on a four-and-a-half year deal, the Championship club said on Thursday.

* Tottenham Hotspur have sold midfielder Mousa Dembele to Chinese Super League side Guangzhou R&F, the Premier League club said on Thursday. The Belgium international joined Spurs from Fulham in 2012 and went on to make 250 appearances for the club, but injuries have curtailed him to 10 league appearances this season.

* Britain's Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) is keen on working with Andy Murray, when the Scot calls time on his career, to transform and develop British tennis to produce more top 100 players in the next five years, according to a media report.
