Nguyen Binh, a 20-year-old Vietnamese, has recently won the 2021 National Award for Young Writers for their scientific English translation of Kieu. Currently studying in the US, the young translator hopes to open a new window into Vietnamese culture and literature for international friends.
“Through my translation I hope that I can open like this new window into Vietnamese culture and literature to let people at least English-speaking people know that there is way more to Vietnam. It's to emphasise on just the very rich culture that moulds, that shapes, that permeates Vietnamese society even to this day”, Binh said.
