Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on Tuesday had a meeting with the Central Committee of the Vietnam Association for the Elderly, in order to further concretize the guidelines and policies of the Party and State towards the elderly, paired with the desire that the elderly make more and more meaningful contributions to the common cause of the Party, State and people.
At the meeting, the Association's leaders reported results to the Prime Minister, highlighting some difficulties and inadequacies in the Association's activities. Leaders of the Government and central departments, ministries and branches also gave opinions on the proposals, recommendations and development orientations of the Association in the coming time.
The Prime Minister proposed that ministries and branches coordinate closely and more effectively in the protection, care and assistance of the elderly. This will assist them to make the most of their strengths and limit difficulties and inadequacies related to old age.
Established in 1995, the Vietnam Association for the Elderly is developing into a strong organization. Up to now, the Association has over 9.7 million members. Currently, there are 6.5 million elderly people in the country who are directly involved in the field of production.
