Trailing in the initial rounds, Mai Hoang Quang (Bim Son High School, Thanh Hoa) displayed composure and determination, surging ahead in the Speed Up and Finish rounds to claim victory in Week 3, Month 2, Quarter IV of the 25th Road to Olympia Mount.
This week’s four contestants included: La Thanh Phuc (Huynh Man Dat Specialized High School, An Giang), Mai Hoang Quang (Bim Son High School, Thanh Hoa), Quy Ngoc Huy Hoang (Tran Phu Specialized High School, Hai Phong), and Doan The Nghia (Chu Van An High School, Thai Nguyen).
Warm Up: Huy Hoang takes the early lead
In the Individual Warm Up round, both Thanh Phuc and Hoang Quang started strong with 50 points each. Huy Hoang scored 30 points, while The Nghia earned 20.
The General Warm Up was tense, with fierce competition among the players. Huy Hoang continuously rang the buzzer and answered correctly, climbing to 80 points and temporarily taking the lead. Thanh Phuc performed well with 60 points. Hoang Quang lost points for one incorrect answer, dropping to 45 points, while The Nghia advanced slightly to 30.
Overcome Obstacle: Hoang Quang breaks through with the correct keyword
Thanh Phuc selected the first horizontal clue, revealing an image. Immediately afterward, all three contestants rang the bell. Hoang Quang guessed “wind power”, Huy Hoang answered “sun”, and Thanh Phuc chose “light”. The correct answer was “wind power”, earning Hoang Quang full points and putting him in the lead with 113 points. Both Huy Hoang and Thanh Phuc tied at 90 points, while The Nghia remained at 30.
In the Speed Up round, contestants only scored on a few questions. Thanh Phuc was the only one to earn the full 40 points on the second question, moving up close to the leading group with 140 points. Hoang Quang maintained his performance by scoring on the first question and raising his total to 175 points. Huy Hoang quickly answered the third question to increase his score to 140 points. The Nghia also scored on the third question, reaching 90 points.
Finish: Mai Hoang Quang secures the laurel wreath
Going first in the Finish round, Hoang Quang chose the 20–20–20 set. Despite missing the second question, he correctly answered the other two, finishing with 215 points.
Thanh Phuc selected the 20–20–30 set but failed to score. Hoang Quang capitalized on a chance to answer and gained 20 additional points, bringing his total to 235.
Huy Hoang picked the 20–30–20 set but answered incorrectly. Hoang Quang seized the opportunity again, adding 20 points and bringing his total to 255.
The Nghia, the last to compete, chose three 20-point questions but failed to answer correctly. Hoang Quang also attempted but gave a wrong answer, losing points and finishing with 245 points.
A convincing victory
Ultimately, Mai Hoang Quang demonstrated composure, determination, and timely breakthroughs to win the laurel wreath of Olympia with 245 points. It was a well-deserved victory for the student from Thanh Hoa in Week 3, Month 2, Quarter IV of this year’s competition.
