Thai retail buyouts challenge domestic businesses

Proof is evident in some recent headline takeovers of retail chains in Vietnam. 

These moves are ample evidence of the attraction Vietnam’s retail market is having on international investors. However, these buy-outs also mean the increased imports of Thai products into Vietnam. This will mean greater competition for Vietnamese supermarkets and local producers, but could provide the motivation for increased competitiveness among local retail brands.
