Police announced the results of the latest anti-loan shark operation in six northeastern provinces, in which they searched 36 locations belonging to 20 loan shark gangs.
In addition to arresting 12 people wanted on warrants, police has charged another suspect for involving in illegal loan sharks. Loan sharks charge high interest rates under unfair loan contracts, many debtors are forced to use their land as collateral for loans, resulting in losses and indebtedness.
Thai Police and Anti-Money Laundering Office pledged to prosecute loan shark operators with transparency and to ensure justice for the victims.
