The zone will span 30 communes, a town in Thai Thuy and Tien Hai districts, and the coastal areas. Covering over 30,000 hectares , the economic zone is intended to leverage the potential provided by its location to promote economic connectivity, trade and services; narrowing the development gap with other regions.
The zone is expected to further attract investment and preserve the local marine ecosystem. Priorities will be given to some industries in order to take advantage of local conditions and in connection with other regional economic zones, industrial parks.
