VTV.vn - As the upcoming Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday draws closer, thousands of Tet gifts have been presented to policy beneficiaries, poor households, ethnic students and disadvantaged workers to help them enjoy a warm Tet.

On January 29, Thang Long Youth Club - YDA Vietnam in collaboration with Copper Mountain Energy Company, the Departments of Education and Training and People's Committees in the communes of Thuong Trach and Tan Trach (in Bo Trach District, Quang Binh Province) visited and gave gifts to ethnic minority students in the two border mountainous communes, which both suffered from severe flooding and landslides during the historic floods in the central Vietnam last year.

At the event, the delegation presented 500 Tet gifts to local students, each including necessities, clothes, learning tools and VND500,000 in cash. In addition, 70 Tet gifts, each including necessities and VND400,000 in cash, were also given to local teachers.

In addition, other school equipment and supplies were donated to schools in the two communes. The total value for the activities under the programme was over VND500 million, contributed by members of Thang Long Youth Club - YDA Vietnam.

* On the same day, in Hanoi, the Community Fund for Disaster Prevention, the Centre for Support of Science and Technology Development and related units organised the "Tet Sharing" 2021, lasting through January, to give thousands of chung cakes and Tet gifts, as well as organising reunion dinners for disadvantaged children, children with disabilities and orphans, as well as hosting visits to give gifts to border officers and soldiers in border areas in the provinces of Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Binh Duong and Ninh Binh.

* A Tet event was also held on January 29 by the Labour Confederation of Dien Bien Province to present 50 Tet gifts to local disadvantaged workers. Between now and the Lunar New Year, the provincial Labour Confederation will present 260 gifts to local disadvantaged workers.

Previously, with the support of Thien Tam Fund (Vingroup), the National Assembly deputy delegation of Dien Bien Province gave 800 gifts (each worth VND600,000) to 800 ethnic minority families in the districts of Dien Bien Dong, Muong Nhe and Tua Chua.

The Northwest Mobile Police Regiment in cooperation with the Vietnam-Laos Development and Cooperation Research Institute and the Mekong Sub-region (Hanoi) presented 100 gifts (worth nearly VND100 million) to students in Muong Phang Primary School (Dien Bien Phu City) and poor families in Thanh Nua Commune, Dien Bien District.

* The Fatherland Front Committee of Quang Ninh Province has received VND300 million in support of the fund "For the poor" from Truong Hai Auto Joint Stock Company - Quang Ninh branch. The Provincial Fatherland Front Committee spent VND100 million to give 200 Tet gifts to local disadvantaged households. The remaining VND200 million will be used to support the construction of four "Great Solidarity" houses for poor households in Ba Che District.

* Can Tho City Red Cross Society organised a gift giving programme, "Tet for the poor and Agent Orange victims", to support the poor, near poor and vulnerable groups in Cai Rang District. About 100 gifts, worth VND500,000 each, along with 1,000 eggs provided by CP Joint Stock Breeding Company, were given to the beneficiaries. The Red Cross also coordinated with Can Tho City Health Service to visit soldiers and staff on duty at an isolation camp for COVID-19 response under Infantry Regiment 932, Military Command Can Tho City.

* On January 29, a delegation of National Assembly deputies of Hau Giang Province and the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee in Hau Giang gave 1,000 gifts to poor households in Vi Thanh City, Vi Thuy District, Long My District and Long My Town, with each gift worth VND600,000, sponsored by the Thien Tam Fund of Vingroup.

On this Tet occasion, Hau Giang will spend a total budget of nearly VND30 billion on Tet activities to care for local beneficiaries. In which, VND9.4 billion is for people with meritorious services, over VND5.4 billion for poor households and about VND14 billion for social protection objects.

* On January 28, the Department of Education and Training of Lang Son Province organised a Tet programme for staff, teachers and workers in difficult circumstances in the province. On this occasion, the Provincial Education and Training Trade Union (under Lang Son Department of Education and Training), the Provincial Labour Confederation, the Lang Son Red Cross and the Provincial Study Promotion Association awarded 168 Tet gifts to teachers, workers and students in difficult circumstances, with a total value of nearly VND170 million.
