On June 24, with 470 out of 475 votes in favour (equal to 95.14% of the total number of National Assembly deputies), the National Assembly passed the law on amendments and supplements to a number of articles of the Law on Entry, Exit, Transit and Residence of Foreigners in Vietnam as well as the Law on Entry and Exit of Vietnamese Citizens.
The temporary stay period for citizens of the country unilaterally exempted from visas by Vietnam will be extended to 45 days, an increase of 30 days compared to the provision in the Law on Entry, Exit, Transit and Residence of foreigners in Vietnam from 2014.
Head of the National Assembly’s Committee for National Defence and Security Le Tan Toi said that unilateral extension of the visa exemption period to 45 days reaches the average level in the region, thereby enhancing Vietnam’s competitiveness in attracting tourists and facilitating foreign tourists in planning long vacations in Vietnam.
The National Assembly also approved the extension of tourist e-visas to 90 days from 30 days from August 15, 2023.
In addition, a foreigner may enter and exit an unlimited number of times within the 90 days, without having to go through procedures for obtaining a new visa.
