Teacher Nguyen Ngoc Ky was born on June 28, 1947, in Hai Hau district, of Nam Dinh province. He suffered a severe illness and lost the use of his arms when he was four years old.
Despite the disability, Ky taught himself to write with his feet and became an excellent student. He received two medals of honour presented by President Ho Chi Minh, for his strong will and determination.

He was a student majoring in Literature at the Hanoi National University from 1968 to 1970.
After graduation, he returned to his hometown and worked as a teacher. He was awarded the title ‘Meritorious Teacher’ in 1992.
In 1994, he moved to Ho Chi Minh City and worked as an educator at the Go Vap Education Centre.
As a member of the Vietnam Writers Association, Ky released many books and poetry collections for children, such as Chu Nhen Du Dua (Balancing Spider) and Qua Bi Ky La (The Miraculous Pumpkin).
His life and career have been an inspirational role model to students and children, particularly those with disabilities, to rise above difficulties.
