The suicide bomber was killed in the blast and 6 people were injured. According to the Indonesian national police spokesman, the bomber was identified as a 24-year-old male student and is believed to have acted alone.
However, the police are investigating to identify whether the bomber had connections with terrorist organizations. The suicide bombing occurred around 9 am local time inside the parking lot of the Medan police headquarters.
Among the injured were 4 police officers and 2 civilians. Security is now being tightened in police stations in the city. Police stations are often the target of extremist attacks in Indonesia, which is home to the biggest Muslim population in the world.
