Strengthening parliamentary cooperation between Vietnam and Türkiye

VTV.vn - National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man and Turkish Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmus agreed to strengthen parliamentary cooperation, promote exchanges of delegations and interactions between parliamentary groups, and share legislative experiences.

According to the VNA special correspondent, continuing his participation in the 152nd General Assembly of the Inter- Parliamentary Union (IPU-152) and conducting bilateral activities in Turkey, on the morning of April 17th local time, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man met with Turkish Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmus.

During the meeting, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man expressed his positive impression of Turkey and its people, who are rich in identity, friendly, and hospitable; he highly appreciated Turkey's increasing role and position in multilateral forums and in mediating disputes in the region; and affirmed that Vietnam attaches importance to promoting relations with Turkey.

Highly appreciating the results of high-level contacts, especially the meeting between the Turkish President and National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man, the Turkish National Assembly Chairman affirmed that Vietnam is an important partner in Southeast Asia and expressed his desire to elevate bilateral relations to a new level. He also expressed his admiration for Vietnam's proactive and responsible role at the 52nd IPU-1 Conference.

Assessing economic cooperation as a bright spot, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man suggested that both sides continue to open their markets and soon consider signing a free trade agreement in a balanced and sustainable manner, creating favorable conditions for each country's strong products. The Turkish side agreed and proposed strengthening cooperation in potential areas such as defense industry, logistics, air and seaport connectivity.

Both sides agreed to strengthen parliamentary cooperation, promote exchanges of delegations and interactions between parliamentary groups, share legislative and oversight experiences, and contribute to perfecting the legal framework for bilateral cooperation. At the same time, they will continue to coordinate closely in parliamentary and multilateral forums, and support each other at the United Nations and other international organizations.
